BUS8x15 Strategic Hospitality Management

Assessment 1: Literature Review
Perform a detailed and cohesive literature review to investigate the role of strategic management in the hospitality industry. You may be given one or more of the following topics by your assessor: advanced concepts of service management, operational procedures, logistics, supply chain and service chain management, and control systems. You are required to show how the topic you have been given is implemented, and how it impacts the hospitality industry.

Assessment 2: Project Proposal
Students have to write a proposal for studying strategic issues currently being faced by existing hospitality businesses in New Zealand. These issues should ideally be based on the students' findings from their literature review in Assessment 1 of this paper. The proposal is for a future study, so it is expected to mostly be written in the future tense, unless where appropriate. The focus of the proposed study should be to identify issues affecting strategic position and long term competitiveness of hospitality businesses. The proposal should be interesting to read and should help establish a good foundation for conducting your research.

Assessment 3: Individual Tutoring
Analyse the secondary data in the form of raw interview transcripts that will be provided, evaluate strategic management issues, devise other strategic options and provide recommendations. This study must aim to provide advice and recommendations that help align business strategies and enable hospitality organisations to strengthen competitive position.
