Section 1
Reflection:
In this week, we have studied about different strikes and protests held by aboriginals in Australia for their indigenous rights. Pilbara Strike, Yirrkala Bark Petitions, Wave Hill Walk Off, the concept of self-determination, Native Title Act, and Structural Oppression of Colonialism are some of the main points we have studied. I find Pilbara Strike topic interesting as this strike aimed at achieving improved wages conditions and land and independence. The establishment of independent community became main aim of this Pilbara movement. This lecture relates to the readings of this week since both have discussed the Aboriginals’ rights of land, property and independence.

Annotation bibliography:
Norman, H., 2015. The aboriginal land rights act: Politics and the art of the possible. 'What Do We Want?': A Political History of Aboriginal Land Rights in New South Wales, p.50.
This article explains about how political tensions and rationalities to the government processes along with the fact how this whole process played its role to the experiences faced by Aboriginal leaders. The 1978 land rights with consequent land rights laws also brought the state and Aboriginals in various yet complicated relations. These relations became source of discontent between the state and Aboriginal people. Moreover, this article tells us about the passage of laws in the year 1983. This process was quite beguiling with being fraught or filled with high extent of political meetings by Aboriginal people and their companions. It also created political disappointment and deception. Those laws ushered in scores of various possibilities together with novel and extraordinary participation in government by Aboriginal people. This Aboriginal Land Rights initiated a new period of clarity and intelligibility formed by decades of native land efforts.
