CE 3.2.1 Nature of the Project

Engineering design is an important process in mechanical field. CAD is found to be the most useful software tool in designing 2D and 3D parts, which can then test for their performance by applying loads on it and can be altered, which can then be developed into physical parts. In the project ‘Designing and Manufacturing of Injection Mold Plastic Part’ I along with other team members worked on designing a TV remote panel, which acts as protective layer body for electrical devices of the remote. The project involved selecting material, designing the model using CREO parametric software, designing mol and cavity for the part that was designed. Then NC milling was performed for the designed core and cavity and then it is ready to be passed to the mold to develop it into a physical part. The project involved the design and milling in the CAD software and did not involve developing the physical part.

  • To create mold for core and cavity and then carry out NC milling of the model designed

CE 3.2.3 Nature of my Work Area

This project provided an opportunity to enhance the coding skills for CREO parametric software. I worked on creating mold of core and cavity once the remote panel was designed. The project team structure is as shown in the below figure

As I had some knowledge about the software, I was able to apply some of the functions. The first step involved shrinkage and the ratio value considered was 0.005. I then worked on identifying different in-built functions, which were applied to create the parting surface. I then worked on NC milling for cavity. I used the Machine Tool setup group and the in-built functions in it. The G-Code for the core and cavity was also generated.  My work also involved carrying out research on additive manufacturing technologies, which are used to manufacture the parts designed in the software. It involved comparing the different technologies to gain knowledge about the best approach that can be used in future to develop the designed part into physical part.
