Description

Purpose

This task provides you with opportunities to learn the knowledge (GLO1) and skills (ULO2, ULO3; GLO1, GLO2, GLO6, GLO7) required in the study and practice of management in sport organisations. This task will develop your discipline-specific acumen along with important communication and self-management capabilities. By completing this task, you will develop your skills in researching, understanding, applying, evaluating, and presenting information required of business professionals.

Context/Scenario

For this task, you will develop a managerial profile of yourself and apply this to managing in the sport environment.

Specific Requirements / Description

Section One (~ 1000 words):

  • Complete three (3) self-evaluations. The self-evaluations can be ONLY be chosen from among the resource links document provided on the MMS714 CloudDeakin
  • Include your results in the Appendices for this Tutoring (e.g., pdf, screenshot, scanned, ).
  • Review the responses and summarise the three (3) completed self-evaluations.
  • Using the responses and feedback of the three (3) completed self-evaluations, illustrate (e.g., charts, tables, ) the attributes/responses in a way that is meaningful (e.g., clustered traits, tendencies, etc.). Be as creative as you want!
  • Utilising your results from the above (1-4), summarise your managerial profile (e.g., What are your strengths? What are your areas of improvement or opportunities to develop? What are your managerial style preferences?)

Section Two (~ 2000 words):

  • For each self-evaluation, please choose one (1) finding of interest from each of the three self- evaluations you have completed (i.e., one finding from each evaluation X three evaluations = 3 in total) and briefly
  • Research theories that explain each of the findings in relation to managerial practice in the sport For example, if you found that your leadership style was ‘people oriented,’ you would identify theories to explain what that style is, its pros and cons for various situations, its impact on subordinate and team responses, and other related behaviours in the sport environment. In the discussion of these

theoretical perspectives, students should be seeking to incorporate traditional literature on managerial approaches as well as contemporary empirical research in this subject area.

In Section Two it is critical that you relate and support your argument with scholarly research which originates from disciplines such as business, management, psychology, or sport management. Do not rely on instinct or your personal thoughts; use research and theories to support your explanations and understanding of your understanding of the pertinent areas. STUDENTS MAY WRITE IN THE FIRST PERSON for this assessment.

Students should also take time and care to proofread their work and ensure proper English grammar and spelling is followed. All research theories and supporting claims should be referenced using the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition referencing guide (spelling should be UK grammar). If you are unclear about references, please make it a point to seek out assistance from the various online resources and the librarian staff. Plagiarism is a serious offence! Do not use the work of others without proper citations!
