OMGT1021 Supply Chain Principles

Aim

This Tutoring aims to develop students’ understanding of the strategic elements that impact supply chain performance and help supply chain partners to obtain a competitive position in the market. This is achieved by asking students to investigate the supply chain of a brand product (to be chosen by the group) with a view to identifying its unique logistics elements (e.g., workflow processes, policy on the location of warehouses, warehousing and inventory management strategies, collaborative arrangements between supply chain partners, and the manner in which information and communication technologies are used in logistics and supply chain operations).

Assessment tasks

This assessment has two components:

1. Group Investigative Report (60% of Assessment 2)
2. Individual Reflective Essay (40% of Assessment 2)

Component 1: Group Investigative Report (Weight = 60% of Assessment 2) Due Date: 22 September, 2023, 23:59 AEST.

Task:

Students are required to document the findings of the investigation in a Report of length 2,000 to 2,500 words. This Report is to be submitted via Canvas by Friday, 22 September, 2023, 23:59 AEST.

Assessment criteria – Group Investigative Report

The report will be assessed according to the following criteria:

• Executive Summary (No more than 100 words) (5%)
• Introduction (10%) [giving a brief background of the company hosting the supply chain (5%) and the approach used to conduct the investigation (5%)]
• Description of the brand product supply chain investigated (10%)
• Identification of unique supply chain and logistics elements that have helped the brand product achieve its market position (20%)
• Discussion and explanation of how (and why) the identified supply chain and logistics elements have contributed to helping the brand product achieve its competitive market position (35%)
• Conclusion (10%)
• Clarity of writing (5%)
• Referencing (5%)

Component 2 – Individual Reflective Essay (Weight = 40% of Assessment 2) Due Date: 29 September, 2023, 23:59 AEST.

Task: 

Write an individual reflective essay of the length of 800-1000 words to document your experience of participating in this group investigative project. In this individual essay, highlight your contributions to the group project, lessons you learned, knowledge and skills you acquired during the investigation and how you can apply those skills in the future. Students are expected to use examples that demonstrate their contributions to the group project and use academic references, where appropriate. This individual essay is to be submitted via Canvas by Friday, 29 September, 2023, 23:59 AEST.

Assessment criteria – Individual Reflective Essay

The reflective essay will be assessed according to the following criteria:

• Reflection of the personal contributions to the group investigative project (20%)
• Incorporates relevant supply chain learning when discussing the lessons learnt from this group project (35%)
• Critical reflection on knowledge and skills developed from this group project and how those can be applied in the future (30%)
• Clarity of writing (10%)
• Referencing (5%)

• This can include both academic references and other materials, such as websites (please use the RMIT library databases, for example, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, PEW Research, EBSCO Business Source, Emerald Insight, Taylor and Francis), company documents, or industry reports (for example, McKinsey, Accenture, Deloitte).

2. Only one member from a group needs to submit the Group Investigative Report (Component 1) via Canvas.
