1.0 The innovation:

Climate change has been a greater threat to the world today, the world has witnessed harsh winters and scorching heat in the summers. One major impact of climate change is the plague of locusts, the rise of this plague started in Africa in Egypt.  It is recorded that one group of these locusts can damage around two hundred vegetation each day covering twenty percent of land of the planet. The locusts plague has been damaging the livelihood of people and centuries and people have come up with different options to tackle it but aren’t successful (Yates, 2015). There have been initiatives to stop the plague like the extensive use of pesticides, burning of the crops, burying the insects or minimizing the growth of crops that are rich in carbohydrates and nutrients as the locusts are drawn towards these types of crops (Palca, 2019). The innovative idea is to take inspiration from the burning of crops but instead burning of manure or garbage on a steel stool that is installed in the center of the crop field. The stool would be a little higher in distance from the ground, this will prevent the crops from burning. The smoke through the garbage will not allow the locusts to eat the crops or vegetation.

2.0 The context and feasibility:

The locust plague that was first seen in Africa is now migrating towards Asian countries like India, Pakistan and China. The plague will soon turn towards other continents also where there is a good amount of vegetation like Australia (Brader, Djibo. Faye, Ghaout, Lazar, Luzietoso, Babah, 2006). The locusts plague has a negative impact on the agricultural sector as these swarms breed over the crops. This can damage the hard work of many farmers and a shortage of that particular crop can decrease the supply and increase the prices of the product in the market. This will damage the income of the farmers and they have to bear the loss, the expenditure on pesticides will increase to tackle the problem. This innovation can be helpful to many farmers in tackling the locusts plague, there are many factors that might hinder or make this innovation a success.

•  Political factor: 

The local and state governments of the effected countries are really disturbed by the on going locusts plague, there have been many solutions that the countries have created to tackle this plague. India has come up with an idea to invest in a drone that would detect the locusts eating the vegetation and spray the pesticides on the area. The initiative is taken by the government to help the farmers (Lal, 2020). This will help but won’t tackle the problem entirely, this shows that the inclusion from the government can actually strengthen the innovation through testing it.

• Economical factor: 

Through the use of this product, the shortages in the market can be remedied and the farmers can earn a good amount for their hard work. Due to locusts plague the livelihood and income of the farmers are negatively impacted because of which the agricultural sector has a shortage of some crops. Moreover, the instruments used in this object aren’t expensive or costly so it will be easy for the farmers to buy the tools.

• Social factor: 

The social institution can raise awareness on how to tackle the locusts plague, the use of the product can be demonstrated by these institutions. Through this the farmers will be able to monitor the situation and use this innovation with help of the institutions. 

• Environmental factor:

There is a drawback that might hinder the implementation of this innovation that is the smoke from the garbage is dangerous that can impact the environment and the atmosphere greatly. The environmental institutions would question the idea of the innovation; however, this is just an idea and the government can develop the innovation to an environmental friendly innovation.

• Technological factor:

This innovation is only an idea, if the testing phase of this innovation is successful than any tech savvy company or person can take the basic idea of the innovation and develop it. This would require the success of the testing phase and a lot of investment by the government to get rid of this plague.
