The first step which was undertaken to identify this article was conducted by accessing the RMIT University Library. In the library search bar the following keywords were entered; ‘disabled youth’, ‘Australia’ and ‘study’. Consequently, three active filters were applied to the search wherein the publication date was set between 2012 and 2020 and ‘youth’ was selected as a subject. The resource type was marked as ‘articles’ so that the database would only show scholarly articles rather than books, book chapters or other resources. Once these active filters were applied, the searched showed up 587 results and this article was identified from among the results. The methodology followed for this research was based on a longitudinal study and the data for this research was acquired through a comprehensive country-wide database in Australia. The key findings of the research highlighted stark differences between the employment transitions of disabled and non-disabled youth, wherein, disabled youth were faced experienced declining career progression when making the switch from different modes of employment. The research identified that disabled youth in Australia are disadvantaged when it comes to transitioning within their careers especially if they wish to seek upward mobility. This calls for a need to develop labour laws and social policy frameworks to assist disabled youth in benefitting from desired career prospects.
