HSH701: Policy in Practice: A Ministerial Briefing on Strategic Public Health Action

The task required the development of a structured Ministerial Briefing Paper to inform and support public health decision-making. The brief needed to include a clear subject, a concise executive summary (approx. 150 words), a statement of the issue in question form, essential background details, a summary of pre-existing policies or actions, at least three options for action with pros and cons, a justified recommendation, and an annotated list of sources. I followed this structure carefully to ensure my briefing was clear, focused, and useful for a policymaker. I selected a relevant public health issue and provided context based on credible data. I clearly defined the current challenges and framed a guiding question in the Statement of Issue. For the Considerations section, I outlined three potential responses, presenting both benefits and drawbacks for each. I then recommended the most suitable course of action based on evidence and policy relevance. In the Sources Consulted section, I briefly explained the value of each reference. Throughout the task, I ensured that the content remained concise, policy-focused, and aligned with the decision-making needs of a busy Minister. I kept within the word limits and used a formal, objective tone suitable for a professional policy document.
