Description

Purpose

This task provides you with opportunities to learn the knowledge (GLO1) and skills (ULO2, ULO3; GLO1, GLO2, GLO6, GLO7) required in the study and practice of management in sport organisations. This task will develop your discipline-specific acumen along with important communication and self-management capabilities. By completing this task, you will develop your skills in researching, understanding, applying, evaluating, and presenting information required of business professionals.

Context/Scenario

For this task, you will develop a video of yourself applying for a managerial position in the sport industry.

Specific Requirements / Description

This assessment is to take the form of a job interview for a managerial position in the sport industry. Students will video themselves providing oral responses to the following four interview questions:

• Describe your ideal job in the sport industry, along with the skills and strengths that you bring which will allow you successfully perform in that
  • As part of this answer consider both the sector (e.g., professional, grassroots, not-for-profit, etc) and the functional area (i.e., marketing, sales, community relations, etc).
• Describe a time where you have experienced a setback in your work life (or other area facet of life) and explain how you responded along with the outcomes of your
  • As part of this answer consider the STAR method (situation, task, action, result) as noted on
• Explain what you have learned from your completed self-evaluations (i.e., Assessment 2 Part A) and how this will impact your future work in the sport
• Reflect on your recent team project experience with colleagues (i.e, Assessment 1), along with your recent learnings on team dynamics, and explain what effect these factors will have on your future work in team settings within the sport

Students should ensure that they are clearly visible and audible in the video. Students are encouraged to make the video as realistic as possible and clearly demonstrate a professional approach to the interview.

Remember that this is a ‘dream job’ scenario, where you are trying to put your best foot forward and stand out from the crowd in order to provide yourself with the best chances possible for selection.

Learning Outcomes

This task allows you to demonstrate your achievement towards the Unit Learning Outcomes (ULOs) which have been aligned to the Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs). Deakin GLOs describe the knowledge and capabilities graduates acquire and can demonstrate on completion of their course. This assessment task is an important tool in determining your achievement of the ULOs. If you do not demonstrate achievement of the ULOs you will not be successful in this unit. You are advised to familiarise yourself with these ULOs and GLOs as they will inform you on what you are expected to demonstrate for successful completion of this unit.

The learning outcomes that are aligned to this assessment task are:

Submission

You must submit your Tutoring in the Tutoring Dropbox in the unit CloudDeakin site on or before the due date. When uploading your Tutoring, name your document using the following syntax: <your

surname_your first name_your Deakin student ID number_[unitcode].doc (or ‘.docx’). For example,

‘Jones_Barry_123456789_ABC123.doc’.

PLEASE NOTE: Cloud Deakin has an approximate maximum file size of 247 MB. While most students do not have any difficulty meeting this, it is useful to plan ahead to make sure. For example, it is recommended to adjust the recording to a lower file size setting to enable successful uploading of your file to the submission folder. Alternatively, file compression software could also be effective in lowering the file size. If the above methods still do not remedy a file size issue, please contact the unit chair to inquire about the potential for alternative submission methods.

It is HIGHLY RECOMMMENDED to complete your video Tutoring well in advance of the due date to account for any such technological issues that could occur when submitting your video file.

Submitting a hard copy of this Tutoring is not required. You must keep a backup copy of every Tutoring you submit until the marked Tutoring has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your Tutorings is misplaced you will need to submit your backup copy.

Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism and for authenticating work.

When you submit an Tutoring through your CloudDeakin unit site, you will receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your Tutoring in the Submissions view of the Tutoring Dropbox folder after upload and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.
